Hi friends, I’m Michelle from Opting Out, based in Brighton, UK. Here I share regular posts on slow living, rest, and opting out of burnout culture, plus my weekly Weekend Mood Board of what’s currently inspiring me. Paid subscribers also get access to the Slow Reading Group (we’re about to start “The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating”), live Co-Resting sessions, yoga nidra audios and pre-recorded full-length restorative and yin yoga classes.

It’s my dream to create a community of misfits, questioners and resters. Are you in? ✨

What I’m reading:

I started R.F.Kuang’s ‘Katabasis’ this week, so far, so good.

What I’m enjoying:

Seeing female folk trio Lady Maisery in London last weekend. Their a capella version of Björk’s “Hyperballad” with harmonies and body percussion was off the scale.

What I’m Noticing:

The brilliant reds of autumn.

That I need to rest, even when I think I don't.

What I’m listening to:

What I’m Eating:

Thai green tofu curry with sticky rice.

What I’m Grateful For:

Cemetery walks.

Resting in community.

Autumn sunshine.

What I’m Looking Forward To:

Another folk gig this weekend, in the church at the end of my road!

What’s Inspiring Me:

Picking up my viola after a long while away.

The changing seasons.

The honesty of the body.

I love hearing what’s on your list. Share below what you’re reading, listening to, or feeling inspired by right now.

❄️ Wintering Well is a five month wellbeing journey for self-nourishment through the darker months.

Through Ayurvedic rituals and dietary wisdom, yoga, sound healing, and rest, we’ll tend to body, mind and spirit, learning the art of true restoration.

Think seasonal playlists, reading recommendations, journaling prompts and community sharing in a private forum away from social media.

We begin on November 1st.
