Hello, I’m Michelle from Opting Out, based in Brighton (and sometimes London), UK. Subscribers can enjoy monthly posts around slow living, rest, and opting out of burnout culture, plus my weekly Weekend Mood Board of what’s currently inspiring me. Paid subscribers get access to ALL my work, including the Slow Reading Group, live Co-Resting sessions, yoga nidra audios and pre-recorded full-length restorative and yin yoga classes.
It's my intention to create a community of resters, questioners and misfits. Are you in? ✨
What I’m reading:
I recently started “With the End in Mind: Dying, Death and Wisdom in an Age of Denial” by palliative care doctor Kathryn Mannix. Taking it slowly as it’s a lot, but it’s deeply moving.
What I’m enjoying:
Slow and easy days, combining pottering with rest.
Planning the next few weeks of home education projects with my son (frogs and Australia so far!).
What I’m listening to:
The early autumn rain on the window as I lie in bed.
What I’m Noticing:
The spaciousness and ease that are always there if I remember to tune in.
What I’m Eating:
Feeling those autumn vibes with baked sweet potatoes, black beans, avocado, broccoli and tahini sauce.
What I’m Grateful For:
Nourishing relationships.
Boundaries.
The Magyu lineage.
What I’m Looking Forward To:
A short trip up north this weekend, to drop my daughter off at University for her second year, and celebrating her 20th (!) birthday.
Visiting the newly opened David Bowie Centre at the new V&A Storehouse Museum.
Autumn live music.
What’s Inspiring Me:
Zara Sultana’s aims for the new leftwing political party which is emerging in the UK.
Artist Banksy’s latest artwork mural on the Royal Courts of Justice.

Writer and meditation teacher John Siddique’s literary response to the recent spate of right-wing flag-raising in many British towns and cities.
I'd love to know what's on your list? Drop a comment below!
