Hello, I’m Michelle from Opting Out, based in Brighton (and sometimes London), UK. Subscribers can enjoy monthly posts around slow living, rest, and opting out of burnout culture, plus my weekly Weekend Mood Board of what’s currently inspiring me. Paid subscribers get access to ALL my work, including the Slow Reading Group, live Co-Resting sessions, yoga nidra audios and pre-recorded full-length restorative and yin yoga classes.

It's my intention to create a community of resters, questioners and misfits. Are you in? ✨

What I’m reading:

I finished Boyhood Island by Knausgaard this past week, volume 3 of his 6-book autofiction series. Some dark and tender moments when he’s describing the difficult relationship he had with his father, but also lots of funny stories about his adolescence.

What I’m enjoying:

Happy memories of the folk festival last week:

What I’m listening to:

After a week-long folk immersion at the festival, I’ve been diving into this 8hr BBC Proms concert curated by organist Anna Lapwood. Weirdly, still contains a lot of folk music! A good knitting soundtrack…

What I’m Noticing:

The power of live music to bring people together.

Knitting as a good teacher of patience.

What I’m Eating:

Homemade pesto with pasta, butterbeans and spinach.

What I’m Looking Forward To:

My upcoming trip to California.

A London picnic with an old friend this weekend.

What’s Inspiring Me:

Holding space for a new Feeding Your Demons client, always a privilege and an honour. It’s a joy to see how someone’s face is visibly lighter at the end of the process.

The beautiful goldfinches that fly in little groups (“charms”) over my tiny urban back garden.

I'd love to know what's on your list? Drop a comment below!
