Why I’ve Left Substack
I’ve loved sharing this newsletter with you, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has read, and reflected on what I’ve posted. But I’ve made the decision to leave Substack.
Substack profits from content I cannot support, including right-wing newsletters that actively spread hatred, harm and misinformation. Hosting my work on a platform that benefits financially from that content goes against the ethos of Opting Out: slowing down, choosing carefully where I place my attention, and aligning my actions with my values.
Opting Out is not just about personal reflection or rest. It’s about living deliberately, even in small ways, in a world where so much of our attention, care, and energy is monetised. For me, continuing on Substack would have meant being complicit, however indirectly, in a system that amplifies harmful voices.
I’ve moved the newsletter here to Beehiiv, where I can continue to share reflections, slow practices, and community offerings in a way that aligns with my principles. For the time being, all posts will be free to access. If you were a paid subscriber before, you should be about to have any remaining time on your subscription pro-rata refunded. If you want to join me for paid yoga classes and more, check out TEND: a sanctuary for seasonal embodiment in community.
Leaving Substack feels like a small but necessary act of alignment. It’s not a moral or performative gesture, it’s a practical one: choosing the platforms, tools, and systems that support the world I want to live in, rather than feeding those I cannot.
